Recession single release - 7th October

Australian and New Zealand hip-hop is a burgeoning scene in the last few years. However, there has been a saturation of rap artists who end up making the same songs over and over again. J Nui seeks to establish his presence as a more authentic and real rap artist with witty bars, intense delivery and catchy hooks. J Nui's relaxed demeanour allows for a more transparent relationship with his fans, striking a balance between conviction and lowbrow intent.

J Nui's upcoming single 'Recession' is set to hit all streaming services on Friday 7th October. After spending most of 2022 focusing on gigs, J Nui has an album in the works set for early 2023 release, with ‘Recession’ being one of the singles to build momentum leading up to the album release.

Bio

J Nui is an Australian rapper and producer of Maori descent. As a teenager, J Nui got into bedroom music production thanks to a limewire-sponsored copy of FL Studio.

Since then, J Nui has been progressing expansively with a diverse sound - all rooted in fundamental hip hop elements. His debut release ‘Solo’ in 2020 was backed with solid playlisting from select tastemakers, and the music video bolstered MTV Australia rotation. Follow up releases such as ‘Hope’ in 2021 garnered Apple Music playlisting as well as features on the A1 Radio show ‘The New Australia’ presented by Briggs. As a producer, J Nui has recorded, mixed and mastered most of his own projects. His rap delivery is often compared to Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. Production-wise, J Nui takes a lot of influence from Kanye West, No I.D. and Timbaland.

J Nui doesn’t indulge in the political correctness of today’s cancel culture, with a refreshing insight into contentious topics whilst maintaining his light-hearted wittiness with clever bars and catchy hooks. J Nui’s persona is heavily tied to the polynesian mythology of Maui, a great cultural hero and trickster.
